TubaChristmas

Each Christmas season, tuba and euphonium players of all ages and across many geographic locations gather to play Christmas carols for appreciative audiences.  This year, concerts will occur in hundreds of cities throughout the United States and several foreign countries.  This is the 14th year that TubaChristmas has entertained audiences in Marquette. The group will again be directed by Dr. Stephen Grugin, Director of Bands at Northern Michigan University.

All TUBACHRISTMAS performances feature traditional Christmas carols arranged for the first TUBACHRISTMAS, December 22, 1974 on “The Rink at Rockefeller Center.”  This is the 50th year in a tradition that began with that concert organized by the great tubist, Harvey Phillips. Carols were specially arranged by famous American composer, Alec Wilder.  Ever since that first concert, the warm, rich organ-like sound of the tuba-euphonium choir has won the ears and hearts of every audience. It is no wonder that TUBACHRISTMAS has become an established Christmas tradition in Marquette, as well as cities throughout the world.
