Plein Air comes from the French phrase “en plein air” meaning “in the open air”. The idea is to capture the effects of sunlight, moonlight, the season, time of day, etc., thus allowing an artist to depict the essence and emotion of a specific time and place. It is an exciting and eye opening experience that is different for all artists. Join Marlene Wood, chairperson of the Fresh Coast Plein Air Festival and Competition in Marquette, as she helps you to learn about plein air painting and the enjoyment of the beauty around you. Painters will meet at the Peter White Library entrance parking lot at 8:00 am and drive to a nearby location. Bring lunch and supplies – travel (or folding) easel, paint of your choice, canvas or canvas board, paper towels, clean-up medium, bug spray, hat, sunscreen, stool (if you’d like). Travel easels available to borrow upon request – please call to reserve one.
materials not included fees: $45 / seniors $40.
