On Wednesday, February 19 at 6:30 pm, the Peter White Public Library will host a meeting of its science fiction book group, Klava Klub, at The Crib, located at 401 N. Third St. Marquette, to discuss Neal Stephenson’s Cryptonomicon.

This cyber-thriller takes place in two eras. During WWII, it focuses on Lawrence Waterhouse, socially awkward mathematical genius, who after Pearl Harbor goes to work in the code breaking division where he is trying to prevent the Nazi’s from learning that their Enigma Code has been broken. Also in this period, Marine Raider Bobbie Shaftoe is assigned to military tasks associated with the code breaking division. Sixty years later, Lawrence’s grandson Randy, computer hacker with a mind for crypto analysis, is working in a group to create a data haven in Southeast Asia. Bobbie’s granddaughter, America, works on a boat that not only is hired to lay cable, but also seeks ocean treasure.
