The Golden Sprouts Gardening Group is a new gardening and local food program presented by the City of Marquette Senior Center, intended to educate and engage participants through special workshops and field trips on topics such as gardening, community beautification, farming and local food systems, and food security.
This program is free and open to residents of the City of Marquette, Marquette Township, Chocolay Township, and Powell Township ages 50+, no prior experience necessary! Meet-ups and field trips with local partners will take place throughout the summer of 2023, and in the fall and winter we’ll come together to plan our own community garden plot for the spring of 2024.
To kick off the program, the Marquette Senior Center is excited to present an open house and cookout at the Presque Isle Pavilion on Tuesday, June 13 from 1:00pm-2:30pm. Anyone interested in getting involved with the Golden Sprouts is encouraged to attend! We’ll get to know one another, enjoy lunch, talk about the inspiration behind this program and some of our plans for summer outings, hear from local partners, and start brainstorming the future of our own community garden.
