The Peter White Public Library invites patrons to a presentation by Pia Justesen celebrating the release of her new book, From the Periphery: Real-Life Stories of Disability on Monday, October 21, at 7:00 pm in the Peter White Public Library’s Shiras Room on the upper level of the Library.
From the Periphery details the nearly 40 stories of people who are treated differently in both their homes and workplaces because of their disabilities. Often heartbreaking, sometimes humorous, these narratives are told by both activists and everyday people, chronicling how they deal with anger, bigotry, independence, and love as they fight for empowerment.
Pia Justesen is a Danish Human Rights lawyer, professor and writer focusing on racial minorities and people with disabilities. In Denmark she has worked as a corporate social responsibility advisor and labor union lawyer. In 2014 she moved to the United States and now splits her time between Chicago and Copenhagen.
