SAIL, Disability Network of the U.P. is hosting a conference at the Holiday Inn in Marquette, MI on October 22nd from 10am to 1:30pm. This event is a kick off event for creating an “Absolutely Accessible Upper Peninsula”.
This event is bringing together architects, builders, contractors, suppliers and the general community to educate and promote accessibility throughout the Upper Peninsula. “We believe that creating more accessible communities for our citizens will improve physical and mental health of those living with disabilities as well as enrich the lives of those who are currently abled.” state Sarah Peurakoski, Executive Director, SAIL. Two presenters are lined up, one being Allen Beauchamp, a Negaunee native, who will present the design and building of his “zero threshold” home. In addition, he will be sharing his personal story as the Keynote Speaker at lunch. The second presenter is Pia Justesen, an international disability lawyer and author of From the Periphery: Real-Life Stories of Disability.
SAIL, Disability Network of the U.P. assists individuals with disabilities and promotes accessible Upper Peninsula communities for all. SAIL serves all fifteen counties of the U.P. and provides a wide range of services that assist individuals living with a disability to gain independence and live their most productive lives possible.
