2019 Wooden Canoe Regional Assembly

Come one, come all, to this event, brought to you by the UP Chapter of the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association.

We invite anyone that is interested in wooden canoes, kayaks, and other paddle crafts, to come out on Saturday the 17th to see a variety of canoes, kayaks, vendors with paddling items and home decorations, demonstrations, and even a silent auction. This event is free of charge, but donations are appreciated so that we can keep doing this into the future!

For the true canoe junkies, we also have additional programming on Friday and Sunday surrounding the event! We’ll be touring the Marquette Maritime Museum and Lighthouse, taking groups onto some of our local waterways, and taking a deeper dive into the construction of wood and canvas canoes. We take registrations up into the weekend, so it’s never too late!

The theme this year is focused around the Klondike Canoe Company and their owner/builder Elmer Johnson. This company, and the Klondike canoes that came out of here, are quite local, based out of Lake Linden, MI! Elmer’s son, Robert Johnson, has been gracious enough to let us use the mold from the Klondike’s for one last build: finishing the canoe that his father started so many years ago. This canoe is ready for it’s debut at the event and it will be going home with someone in attendance as it will be in the auction. Here’s your chance to get a truly multi-generational piece of local history!
