Call for mural artists – After four years of enjoyment, our murals are now faded. Local artists are invited to reimagine the five original words. Selected artists will receive $300 and all supplies necessary. Murals will be painted during Art Week (June 24-29)

The recent call for artists produced many wonderful submissions; however, no artist applied for “GRATITUDE”. MPAC now invites applications specifically for the word: GRATITUDE located at the south side of the Marquette Commons

We are collecting stories and photos from our community about how the project has contributed to Marquette, what the words inspire within you, and your favorite photos of these murals that many encounter every day!

A temporary public art installation featuring a series of motivational words along the City of Marquette multi-use trail, all designed and painted by various local artists and groups in two phases (2020, 2023). Third phase coming 2024, Call for Artists is LIVE

The “Words to Live and Bike By” project began during the summer and was executed in the fall of 2020 amidst the COVID pandemic. It aimed to uplift spirits and promote positivity within the community. MPAC sought to engage community members and organizations safely during the pandemic.

  • In the first phase, “Respect,” “Remember,” “Dream,” “Hope,” and “Gratitude” were selected to be painted at various locations along the Holly Greer Bike Path to encourage respect for the environment and spread a message of hope and gratitude.
  • In the second phase, the project allowed artists to choose words while expanding to locations deeply embedded in the community, beyond the shoreline focus of phase one.
  • The third phase will refresh the, now faded, original five words with new designs.
