ART WEEK Film Showcase

Presented by City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center and Masonic Arts, Theatre, and Innovation - MÄTI at Masonic Center Red Room

MÄTI invites the community to the Red Room of the Masonic Center for free showings of water-inspired films produced by community members. Featured films include:

Reflections of “An American Sunrise”, by Ronnie Ferguson
Film showing from 11:00am-1:00pm; Q&A from 1:00pm-1:30pm
Reflections is a documentary about the 2021 NEA Big Read in Marquette, which featured people and events related to the famed An American Sunrise by poet Joy Harjo, the first Native American to hold the honor of United States Poet Laureate. The film explores themes such as water and the protection of it, and conservation efforts around the Great Lakes.

FLOW, by TaMaMa Dance Company
Film showing from 1:30pm-2:30pm; Q&A from 2:30pm-3:00pm
FLOW is a full-length, modern dance performance and creative collaboration of dance, music and light. FLOW was TaMaMa’s second Large Work, which premiered during Art Week 2018. The performance features 13 local dances and is comprised of three sections – Meditation, Dichotomy, and Beauty. For this piece, the choreographers have thought about the creative process, the shaping of space, and the movement of energy. Flow can be a physical state of mind; it can be the connection between all things. Flow represents the movement of blood through the body, water on the planet, and ideas within the collective conscience.

Bigfoot and Marty, by Ronnie Ferguson
Film showing from 3:00pm-4:50pm; Q&A to close
Bigfoot and Marty is an experimental documentary by Ronnie Ferguson. The film is a meditation on poetry, Bigfoot, mystery, and the Great Lakes Region. It features two-time U.P. Poet Laureate Marty Achatz, Bigfoot experts, professional mystery hunters, and much more.
