ART WEEK Cultural Conversation: To Be Remembered

ART WEEK Cultural Conversation: To Be Remembered

Presented by City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center at Presque Isle Park

Mikewendaagozi (To Be Remembered) is the title for the painting gracing the entrance of Presque Isle. Artist Sherri Loonsfoot-Aldred is the first indigenous artist to design and paint the iconic sign. The actual sign contains a high-resolution scan; the original oil painting currently hangs in the Marquette City Hall Commission Chambers. Aldred will discuss the creation of the sign and its cultural significance.

Meet us at the sign at the entrance to Presque Isle!

Cultural Conversations will be held daily at 12:00pm throughout Art Week, hosted by different local experts at different spots along our great lakeshore.

This activity is part of the City of Marquette's 2022 Art Week. For more information on Art Week, visit our Art Week homepage. For a full listing of this year's events, click here. Please note that event details are subject to change; online listings will be updated as necessary.
