RECONNECTING OUR COMMUNITY THROUGH A SHARED LOVE OF THE ARTS

Phil Niemisto Statue

Artist: Earl Senchuck

The plaque near the statue and bench reads: “Phil Neimisto became an icon in Marquette’s downtown district, working tirelessly, rain or snow, washing merchants’ windows and planting and caring for this public garden. Wearing his signature blue shirt and tie, this statue is a tribute to a gentleman who reminds us that we all can make a difference.” Phil donated his time as a window washer and friendly face around downtown Marquette for many years. The statue was unveiled Oct. 17, 2017; Phil passed away Feb. 25, 2018 at age 88. Sit next to this local legend for a lunch break in the heart of downtown.
