We are looking for volunteers to act as docents and assist with the spring K-12 tours from May 15 - 25. Download our docent guide to help you learn more about the program. This is an excellent opportunity for students who want to engage with the community and gain valuable leadership experience. It is also fun for community members. I have been a docent since I was a student at NMU, and I always learn something new from the students. More than 1000 children from the community visit NMU and the Museum each season on these tours. Some of them return as students. The Museum pays for bussing for area schools to ensure field trips are free for schools. (Thanks to our annual donors who support and expand educational access!)

K-12 school visits are made possible by our generous and passionate volunteer docents. Anyone who enjoys art and working with kids can volunteer to lead tours as a museum docent! There are NMU students, young professionals, and community members who assist in our education outreach. The volunteer docent program is open to all, and the hours and schedules are flexible. We provide training on how to look at and talk about art and how to engage young viewers, facilitate discussion, and navigate the Museum. For more information or to get involved, contact Collections Curator Sydney Sarasin for application information at ssarasin@nmu.edu or 906-227-2136.
