Chairs With a View is a community art project, coordinated by Lynn Buckland-Brown and supported by the Lake Superior Art Association, the City of Marquette, local sponsors, and artists.

The target goal is 24 chairs which will be painted by local artists and placed in the Lower Harbor area for Art Week, June 20-25. After Art Week, the chairs will be placed, in small groups, for public use, along the waterfront for the summer.

Individuals, businesses and organizations now have the opportunity to sponsor an Adirondack chair. Their names will be engraved on a metal plaque that will be mounted onto the back of the chair. Sponsoring a chair is also a way honor or memorialize a special occasion or person.

The theme for Art Week is “Water” and artists may interpret it anyway they like. Creativity and originality are strongly encouraged! A call for artists to submit applications will be announced at a future date. A committee will select 24 artist proposals.  Artists will receive a sanded, unfinished chair, primer, paint, and sealer. They will have approximately four weeks to complete their chairs and are encouraged to sign their names on them! It is hoped that the chairs can be stored over the winter and used again in the years to come.

The total cost to sponsor a chair is $325. This will cover the cost  of an unfinished, sanded, cedar Adirondack chair, paint, primer, sealer, and a cable with lock to secure it, if necessary, and a plaque. To sponsor a chair, please contact Lynn Buckland-Brown at lbuckmar2@yahoo.com or message/call her at 906-399-9824.
