The City of Marquette announces the inaugural “Fresh Coast Plein Air Painting Festival” as a part of Art Week 2017.
The City of Marquette announces the inaugural “Fresh Coast Plein Aire Painting Festival”. The festival will occur on Friday, June 30, 2017 from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. A special public reception and viewing will be held 5 p.m.-6:30 p.m. at the Iron Bay Restaurant and Drinkery. $2,000 in prizes will be awarded. Including, Best of Show, First Place, Second Place, Honorable Mentions and People’s Choice. Plein Aire means to paint outdoors or in “open air”. Artists may paint at any Marquette outdoor location from Founder’s Landing to Presque Isle Park, along the shore or in town. Paintings must illustrate or be inspired by real-life scenes and will be considered finished when returned for judging.
Fresh Coast Plein Aire Painting Festival is presented by Travel Marquette. Additional sponsors include Iron Bay Restaurant and Drinkery, Beth Millner Jewelry, Zero Degrees Gallery, Marquette Downtown Development Authority, Lake Superior Art Association and Studio Gallery of Kathleen Conover and Yvonne Lemire.

Artists may pre-register by email at: arts-culture@mqtcty.org or on the day of the event. Check-in is 7 a.m. at the Peter White Public Library located at 217 N. Front Street. Artists must have canvases/substrates stamped at check-in and may submit up to two paintings at the end of the day to be judged. Artists may bring frames for pieces to be judged if desired but this is not required. A registration fee of $25 is due at check-in. Further details, including a map of the Marquette area and list of painting sites, sheltered areas, and public restroom facilities will also be available at check-in.
