Winter Roots Film Festival

Winter Roots Film Festival

Presented by Peter White Public Library at Peter White Public Library - George Shiras III Room

Starting at 10 a.m. on March 18 in the Shiras Room, PWPL will screen two award-winning documentaries about traditional/folk music and musicians.  The first film, In Search of Blind Joe Death:  The Saga of John Fahey, chronicles musician and musicologist Fahey’s contributions to the understanding and appreciation of the Delta blues, Appalachian bluegrass, and New Orleans jazz.

The second film, Greenwich Village:  Music that Defined a Generation, features reflections by such influential musicians as Pete Seeger, Carly Simon, Judy Collins, and Arlo Guthrie on how the artists/musicians of Greenwich Village shaped an entire generation in community, hope and music.  This documentary includes rare archival footage of live performances.

To finish off the day, 2022 Marquette Art Awards Performing Artist of the Year Troy Graham and company will provide the live musical score for two Charlie Chaplin 1920s silent film comedy classics.  Blending Chaplin’s timeless artistry with Graham’s original score will give PWPL audiences an unforgettable viewing experience.

Mark your calendars for the 2023 Winter Roots Film Festival at PWPL.
