RESCHEDULED - ART WEEK TaMaMa Dance Company:

RESCHEDULED - ART WEEK TaMaMa Dance Company: "Sanctuary"

Presented by City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center and TaMaMa Dance Company at Harbor Lighthouse Grounds

Due to inclement weather in the forecast, this event, originally scheduled for Saturday, June 25, has been moved to Sunday, June 26.

TaMaMa Dance Company, in collaboration with Patrick Booth and Maria Formolo present: SANCTUARY,  a site-specific modern dance piece with themes of curiosity, exploration, ritual, and gratitude. This piece was choreographed specifically for this location and the movement was created with all available natural elements.

Throughout the creation of the piece, the shape of the beach, the amount of dry sand, and the position of the rocks has shifted greatly, causing the performers to also shift and adjust. This is very different work then if it were set on a traditional stage with fixed elements under human control. The sand, the rock, the wind, and the lake have been just as involved in the creation of SANCTUARY as any of the performers. Working in this was reminds us that in life there is much that is beyond our control, yet that is when creativity really shines.

This activity is part of the City of Marquette's 2022 Art Week. For more information on Art Week, visit our Art Week homepage. For a full listing of this year's events, click here. Please note that event details are subject to change; online listings will be updated as necessary.
