ART WEEK Marquette City Band:

ART WEEK Marquette City Band: "Sweetwater Seas"

Presented by City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center and Marquette City Band at Presque Isle Bandshell

As part of their 2022 Summer Concert Series, the Marquette City Band presents the premiere performance of a new piece for band titled “Mers d’eu douce (Sweetwater Seas)” by Alberta-based composer James Bicigo. The piece consists of 5 short movements, each depicting one of the Great Lakes.

Dr. Bicigo is a retired music professor from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. Although he currently lives in LaCombe, Alberta, he has spent much time near the Great Lakes throughout his life, and the Lakes served as the inspiration for this composition. Dr. Bicigo will be returning to Marquette for the performance, and will be speaking to the audience during the concert about the composition regarding its connection with the Great lakes and the impact that living near water has had on his life, as well as guest conducting the premiere!

This activity is part of the City of Marquette's 2022 Art Week. For more information on Art Week, visit our Art Week homepage. For a full listing of this year's events, click here. Please note that event details are subject to change; online listings will be updated as necessary.
