ART WEEK Inspired and Moved by Water!

ART WEEK Inspired and Moved by Water!

Presented by City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center at Presque Isle Park

Members of the Queen City Adult Ballet will be performing on the beach across from the Presque Isle Pavilion. The dance will represent the ebb and flow, power, and beauty of Lake Superior as they use giant drapes to depict the power of our lake to the music of James Newton Howard’s “Lady in the Water.” Guests of any age and ability, especially children, will be invited to join the dancers on the beach; together, they will recreate shapes the lake makes, giving participants opportunities to experiment with drapes while explaining how important the health of our lake is and that any obstruction, such as pollution, will change its beauty and flow.

In addition, all children who participate will be welcomed to take part in a scavenger hunt in the woods adjacent to the beach to search for gifts to use at the Queen City Adult Ballet’s Faery Ballet performance the following Sunday, June 26 (shows at 1:00pm and 7:00pm; tickets). These gifts will be hidden in small burlap bags that will include a star in honor of the Star Faery, a key character in the ballet, and backstage passes before the Sunday ballet, photo opportunities after the ballet on stage with their favorite dancers, a free faery activity booklet, or free ticket.

This activity is part of the City of Marquette's 2022 Art Week. For more information on Art Week, visit our Art Week homepage. For a full listing of this year's events, click here. Please note that event details are subject to change; online listings will be updated as necessary.
