The Hiawatha Music Co-op sails on into the first evening of Art Week with singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and founder of Marquette-based Philville Records, Matthew R. Sayles and his new band, The Driftless Revelers. Nationally recognized, award-winning singer/songwriter and local musician, Tret Fure, will open the evening’s concert.

Hiawatha will also provide opportunities for participants to blend visual arts and music experiences utilizing the Art Week Water theme through hands-on art activities. Materials will be provided for children and adults to make fish guitars, sailboat mobiles, and colorful fish cutouts placed on makeshift fishing poles. These pieces will then be added to a temporary, outdoor art installation featuring hundreds of these pieces throughout the park.

As we sail together again after setting adrift during the pandemic, this concert will not only continue the day’s celebration of the arts, but also gather together visitors and residents before Lake Superior to celebrate all that is has given to us. From the shaping of the land to create our beautiful shoreline, the lifegiving water that supports the health, well-being, recreation, and work of our community, to the sense of peace, tranquility, power, and appreciation for life it instills throughout the changing seasons – it is one of the natural guiding, unyielding forces that make Marquette such a unique community to visit, as well as live, work, and play.
