Marquette Choral Society 50th Anniversary Gala

Marquette Choral Society 50th Anniversary Gala

Presented by Marquette Choral Society at Northern Center

Marquette Choral Society will celebrate its 50th anniversary this spring with two concerts and a gala event.

MCS will hold a 50th Anniversary Gala at 6 p.m., April 20, at the NMU Northern Center. Tickets to the Gala are $35, and are also available at the NMU ticket office. This one-of-a-kind, formal event will celebrate MCS members, supporters and choral-music enthusiasts from the organization’s beginning to the present. The Gala will include hearty hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar and musical entertainment.

Also, the 2022 Upper Peninsula Choral Leadership Award will be presented to John Ignatowski, recognizing his exceptional leadership and contribution to choral music in the U.P. over a period of many years.

The chorus will also present two concerts featuring Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, at 7:30 p.m., April 23, and 3 p.m., April 24, at Kaufman Auditorium in Marquette. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for students, and are available at the Northern Michigan University ticket office.

Marquette Choral Society is a mixed-voice, adult choir of approximately 100 singers from a four-county region in the Upper Peninsula. MCS strives to engage, enrich, and inspire this region through the art of choral music. The ensemble was founded in 1971 by Dr. William Dehning and is currently led by musical director Dr. Erin Colwitz. The group’s 50th anniversary celebration was delayed by COVID.
