November’s Senior Visual Art Classes feature Gyotaku taught by Michele Tuccini!
Senior Visual Arts classes are offered on the first and third Wednesday of each month from 1:00pm-3:00pm at the City of Marquette Arts & Culture Center, located in the lower level of Peter White Public Library.
November's classes feature Gyotaku, taught by local artist Michele Tuccini! November dates are the 3rd and 17th.
Gyotaku is the traditional Japanese method of printing fish, a practice which dates back to the mid-1800s. This form of nature printing was used by fishermen to record their catches, but has also become an art form of its own. Don't bother bringing in your catch of the day - we'll be using rubber fish!
Prints will be done on practice paper, then on a canvas tote bag for students to bring home with them. All supplies will be provided, but feel free to bring anything else you would like to do a print on - aprons, t-shirts, additional totes, you name it!
These classes are free to City of Marquette, Chocolay Township, Powell Township, and Marquette Township residents ages 55+. Non-residents are welcome to attend for a small donation of $5 per class to help cover the cost of supplies.
Reserve your spot by calling Tristan at (906) 225-8655 or emailing tluoma@marquettemi.gov. The same class will be offered on both dates, so please only sign up for one or the other. No prior artistic experience necessary.
NOTE: Classes tend to fill up quickly. In the event that a class is at capacity, we encourage you to join a wait list; we'll get in touch prior to the class if any spots open up.
