ART WEEK Marquette Throw Down for the Arts

ART WEEK Marquette Throw Down for the Arts

Presented by HOTplate Pottery & Art Studio at Masonic Square Mall

Join HOTplate for the Marquette Throw Down for the Arts Kickoff Competition at the Masonic Center as part of Art Week!

Four community members (with little to no clay throwing experience) have been selected to compete in a month-long pottery throwing competition, culminating in a final competition during Blueberry Fest on Friday, July 30. These four participants will be fundraising for four local arts organizations: Liberty Children’s Art Project, U.P. Children’s Museum, Superior Arts Youth Theater, and Caregiver Incentive Project.

The competition will start off with a wheel throwing demonstration by an instructor at 3:00pm, after which the participants will have 45 minutes to get some practice on the wheel. From 4:00pm-4:30pm, the first challenge will begin, as the potters will compete to see who can throw the tallest clay cylinder without it tearing. From 4:30pm-5:00pm, the potters will compete to see who can create the widest clay bowl without it flopping. The winners of each challenge will receive $100 donated toward their organization to jumpstart fundraising efforts!

After Art Week, participants will have until the final competition at Blueberry Fest (Friday, July 30 at 5:30pm) to practice their craft at HOTplate and fundraise along the way.

Come down to the Masonic to help cheer these community members on! Free to attend, but donations toward fundraising are appreciated.
