An Evening with former Olympic Swimmer, Gary Hall Jr.

Presented by U.P. Diabetes Outreach Network at NMU Jamrich Hall

SPECIAL GUEST speaker is 3 time Olympian, Gary Hall Jr. Gary Hall Jr. is an Olympic swimmer (1996, 2000, 2004) and winner of 10 Olympic medals (5 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze). He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1999 while he was training for his second Olympics. He was told by his team of doctors that it was unlikely that he would compete at such a high level as the Olympics after he was diagnosed. He was devastated by this news but he took some time, fired his team of doctors, found a new team of doctors who he charged with helping him figure out how to compete while living with Type 1 Diabetes, and went on to win gold medals and set a World Record in the 2000 Olympics.. Gary is a role model to many, demonstrating that diabetes does not have to stand between a hard working individual and their dream.
