“We should show life neither as it is, nor as it should be, but as we see it in our dreams…”
On August 1st 2019, Upper Peninsula Shakespeare Festival returns with Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull, performed as a fully staged reading at the Marquette Regional History Center. Chekhov’s beloved and classic “slice of life” play proves the long-standing formula of comedy equaling tragedy plus time. Chock full of sumptuous characters portrayed by local favorites, our story studies the frustrating facets of bitter dissatisfaction, the ridiculousness of the human spirit and ultimately the inevitable and ironic satire of it all. That’s The Seagull- that’s life!
Note: A loud sound effect produced by a real pistol firing a blank from offstage is used in this production.
