As part of the 2018 Master Artist visit, the Hiawatha Music Co-op will present sing along of classic Freedom themed folk songs with Si Kahn, Thursday evening, September 13th from 6-8 pm at the Co-op Office in the Village Shopping Center.
An interactive sing-along with Si Kahn with a focus on SOUTHERN CIVIL RIGHTS AND LABOR SONGS. Participants are encouraged to bring acoustic folk instruments. Si has written the script, music and/or lyrics for six musical theatre productions. He has had full productions at the Berkeley, Milwaukee and Tennessee Repertory Theatres and the Tennessee Performing Arts Center. He set to music and recorded the classic children’s books Runaway Bunny and Goodnight Moon for Harper Collins Publishers and has composed original music and lyrics for several films and videos, including the labor videos The Turning Point, We’re Not Leaving, and One Voice, in addition to the PBS documentary, Hazardous Wastes: The Search for a Solution. His folk/bluegrass style songs such as Aragon Mill, Gone Gonna Rise Again, Go to Work on Monday, and Rubber Blubber Whale have become part of an international oral tradition, and are sung in folk clubs and living rooms, and at demonstrations and on picket lines around the world. He has recorded over 18 CD’s, many of which were honored as #1 on the International Folk DJ List. In addition to his musical endeavors, Si Kahn has worked for over 50 years as a professional civil rights, labor and community organizer.
