The Marquette City Commission has appointed eight residents of the city to service as an oversight board to the Land Development Code project (LDC), and to provide input and feedback to the consulting team, City staff, and the Planning Commission.  The project is in its third month and is scheduled to be completed in twelve months, not including time for final public review and hearings.

The LDC project will modernize the City's land-use codes, and create a user-friendly document that updates and combines various ordinance/code elements.  The intended impacts of this project are to update zoning districts and standards, to incorporate new standards for increased environmental protection and the mitigation of the negative impacts of urbanization and growth, and to reduce the complexity of the current land-use ordinances and reduce the number of variance cases caused by outdated standards.  The envisioned Code document will be designed to assist in implementing the City's vision to become a premiere sustainable community with a strong sense of place that provides unique opportunities for living, learning, and business.
