Symbolic Transmutations

Presented by SAKRA + LALI - The Creative House at SAKRA + LALI - The Creative House

The artist will introduce himself and his body of work in a short Artist Talk during the opening reception. We are expecting to start the talk at 6:30 pm. The work will be up at The Creative House for a month.

Blacksmith, Gordon E. Gearhart III, forges and welds sculptural, architectural and utilitarian objects at his studio in Marquette, Michigan. A background in sheet metalwork and industrial technology, a passion for traditional blacksmithing techniques and a fascination with the artifacts of Marquette’s industrial past have combined to form a body of work using hot forging, arc welding and salvaged iron.

During the 36 years of Gordon’s career, his art has been exhibited in galleries in the Midwest and his privately commissioned work accents the homes and businesses of clients around the United States. He is actively involved in demonstrating the art of blacksmithing to the public and teaching this traditional craft to a new generation.
