“Explore Tech: Engineers Make a World of Difference” Traveling Exhibit and Programs

Presented by Peter White Public Library Youth Services at Peter White Public Library

The Peter White Public Library Youth Services department is excited to announce that we have been selected to host “Explore Tech: Engineers Make a World of Difference”, a traveling interactive exhibit from the STAR Library Education Network. The exhibit will be opening Thursday August 17th 2017 in the Youth Services Department on the Lower Level.

Explore Tech shows how engineering provides solutions to better meet human needs and develop sustainable innovations for the future, as well as how engineers create new technologies to solve problems. The exhibit features hands-on and multimedia components that allow exhibit visitors to interact with exhibit content in a dynamic way, encouraging new perspectives about engineers and their vital work.

“I am thrilled that we received the opportunity to host Explore Tech,” said Andrea Ingmire, Library Director. “It is a fascinating exhibit, incorporating hands-on learning through the maker table and computer kiosk, and giving us the opportunity to make new community partners and explore how technology and engineering is used every day here in Marquette. I hope that the whole community will be able to come and see the exhibit and participate in the programs that we will be offering.”

Explore Tech includes three areas: A. Engineering: Past, Present, and Future, B. High Tech/Low tech, and C. Power Up! Creating a Sustainable Energy Future. The exhibit will include a touchscreen computer kiosk that contains several games to engage children and adults. There will also be a maker table with LEGO, Duplos, Snap Circuits Jr, Monkey Gears and more for hands-on learning. Exhibit visitors will also learn about the fundamental principles of energy, become aware of their own energy use, and understand the impact of engineering on societies over time and place and the importance of energy in modern society.

The Peter White Library will be hosting a number of events between August 17th and October 11th 2017. The Grand Opening event, which will include an Engineering Challenge, is August 30th from 6-8pm. These programs will be free to kids, families and adults. Contact us at 906-226-4323, email us at pwpl@pwpl, or visit our website pwpl.info for more information and a schedule of upcoming programs in connection with the exhibit as they become available.

“Explore Tech: Engineers Make a World of Difference” was organized by Space Science Institute’s National Center for Interactive Learning, the American Library Association’s Public Programs Office, the Lunar and Planetary Institute and the Afterschool Alliance. This project was made possible through the support of a grant from the National Science Foundation.
