2017 Michigan Notable Book Presentation

2017 Michigan Notable Book Presentation

Presented by Peter White Public Library at Peter White Public Library

The Peter White Public Library would like to invite the public to a presentation of the 2017 Michigan Notable Book, Michigan Modern:  Design that Shaped America, on Monday, June 26, at 7:00 pm in the Shiras Room.

Although Michigan has always been known for its contributions to 20th century manufacturing, it has only recently been recognized for its contributions to mid-century modern design.  Michigan Modern:  Design that Shaped America by Amy Arnold and Brian Conway, selected in 2017 by the Michigan Department of Education and the Library of Michigan as one of twenty books celebrating Michigan, contains nearly thirty essays and interviews that show Michigan’s contribution to modern design in architecture, automobiles, furniture, and education.

Presenter Amy Arnold is the Michigan State Historic Preservation Office’s preservation planner.  She earned her bachelor’s degree in history from Western Michigan University and studied at Duke University before obtaining her master's degree in historic preservation from Eastern Michigan University.  She has been the project manager for Michigan Modern since its inception in 2008.

Snowbound Books will be at this event for book sales and signing.

There is no admission charge to attend thanks to sponsorship by the Michigan Humanities Council, the Michigan Center for the Book, Meijer, the Library of Michigan, the Michigan Department of Education, Michigan State University College of Arts and Letters, the Library of Michigan Foundation, and the Peter White Public Library.  For more information, visit www.pwpl.info or call 226-4318.
