Artist Daric Christian carries his phone everywhere with him and often photographs the environments he experiences. Christian’s exhibit, Cell Phone Photography, will be on display in the Huron Mountain Club Gallery (Main floor) through the end of September.

The opening reception will be held Thursday, August 10th, from 6-8PM.

My goal is not to document, but to recreate the feeling I had at that moment and place. Light and scale are the most critical elements to replicate those feelings.

The cell phone photographic works presented here are informed by historical process of photography that I explored in my younger years as an artist. Coating to create chemical surfaces to record information captured through large format cameras was the process of my early work.

The photographs are a welcome respite from my other artworks, which often deal with complicated personal narratives or complex social issues, utilizing symbolic structures. These photographs allow me to strip away complexity and focus on composition and visceral feelings.

In this show, only one image has been cropped post-process, and that process of composing while photographing is, in its own way, rewarding and keeps my design skills sharp.
