October’s Deo Gallery exhibit, “Oh The Places We Have Been,” features the work of painter Mara Manning and mixed media artist Diane Kribs-Mays. Manning’s abstract work includes line, shape, texture, and color to move the viewer’s eye around her work. Painting with oil and cold wax, Manning uses mixed media to create a textural surface, allowing the audience to discover her pieces’ hidden beauties and stories. Kribs-Mays’s hand-pulled glass sculptures encompass an intricate talent, displaying delicate cranes with spires of color and beautifully innocent houses. Kribs-Mays has put together an entire cabinet of smaller pieces that range from abstract flowers to intricate glass eggs, offering a wide array of eye-catching treasures to discover.

Kribs-Mays has an innocent tone to her glasswork, yet her vibrancy in colors draws all audiences in for a closer look at the exquisite glass sculptures. Manning utilizes unique styles of painting and scraping to allow the work to reveal itself to her, adding an element of surprise to each piece. The “Oh The Places We Have Been” exhibit encompasses both artists’ interpretations of their adventures and the importance of finding the stunning complexity in all things.
