Michael Waite is a local singer and songwriter. Whether it is his gentle smile or his rich vocals, Michael is a familiar member of our community. He grew up in Harvey, studied trombone at Western Michigan University and later transferred to Northern to finish college as a voice major. Known for his singing his own songs as well as original interpretations of popular songs, Waite has been performing weekly in the central UP ever since returning here. His songwriting is deeply rooted in our natural surroundings, and many locals who have moved away have told him they put on his recordings when they want to remember what home is like. His wife Erica is a dancer trained in ballet, and when they're not too busy building their house up in Powell Township they can be found performing together in local churches, festivals, and benefit shows.
