Call for Artwork - Spring Community Art Exhibit at City Hall

   

Local community members of all ages are invited to submit a ready-to-hang 2D art piece inspired by the subtle signs of spring in the U.P. and the beauty that comes with the changing of seasons.

Artwork will be accepted until Friday March 17th. Please drop off submissions at the Marquette Arts and Culture Center, located in the lower level of the Peter White Public Library, during office hours (Monday-Friday, 10am-5pm).

 

Eligibility

All 2D mediums are accepted including poetry broadsides. Must be flat against the wall and no projection equipment is allowed. All 2D artworks must be ready to hang. One entry per person.

 

Submission Guidelines:

  • Submissions are due by 5pm Friday March 17th. Drop off at the Marquette Arts and Culture Center, located in the lower level of the Peter White Public Library, during office hours (Monday-Friday, 10am-5pm).
  • The following information is required for each image: Artist’s first and last name, contact information, title of work, and medium.
  • Work can be recent or older work.
  • Imagery and/or content should be appropriate for all ages.
  • By submitting artwork, you give the Office of Arts and Culture permission to publish image(s) of your creative work on the MQTcompass.com as an online gallery of the show.
  • Marquette City Office of Arts and Culture reserves the right to use photos of all or some of the work to promote the event for the duration of the exhibit and prior and after the exhibit.
  • Artwork is display only and not for sale.

Juried Awards 

Awards will be recognized in the gallery space and receive a feature on the MQTcompass.com. Artists will also receive a certificate at the end of the exhibit.

City Manager’s Best in Show – Our City Manager, Karen Kovacs, will select the piece she believes to best represent signs of spring in Marquette.

Popular Choice – A ballot box will be placed at the exhibit for the community to vote for their favorite piece.

Voting guidelines are as follows:

One vote per person. Honor system – this is all in the spirit of community building and good fun.
Voting period will close Friday, May 12th. The popular choice winners will be announced the following week.

Timeline​

March 17th, 5pm – Submission deadline

March 20-22 – Exhibit Installation at City Hall

March 22-May 30 – Exhibit duration

March 22-May 12 – Public voting period (Winners announced first week of May)

May 31st – Exhibit takedown and Artwork pick up from City Hall
*Special accommodations can be arranged with ample notice
