As a part of the 2019 City of Marquette Art Week, the Marquette Area Sister City Partnership will host a two-hour long Japanese arts workshop at the Marquette Arts and Culture Center (located in the lower level of Peter White Public Library), including activities such as origami, calligraphy, kite making, and crane wind bell making. The workshop will take place on Thursday, June 27 from 11:00am – 1:00pm.

The MASCP is excited to welcome Shunsuke Nishimura, Kanako Morishita, and Mizuho Munekata from Lansing as special guests and workshop co-hosts.
Shunsuke Nishimura is a visiting official from Shiga Prefecture, Japan, with whom the State of Michigan shares an international friendship. The Marquette-Higashiomi sister city friendship is one of eighteen shared between Michigan and Shiga cities.
Kanako Morishita currently works as Japan Outreach Initiative Coordinator for the Japan Center for Michigan Universities. Originally from the Aichi Prefecture in Japan, she moved to Lansing last year, and in her current role connects people in Michigan with Japan through grassroots activities and community visits.
Mizuho Munekata is a college student from Shiga Prefecture who is currently studying in North Carolina as an exchange student. She’s spending a month in Michigan while on summer vacation.
